We Need to Bring Back the Decades
We're livin' in the twenties, and don't forget it! Time to get with the twenties.
Astute comedian/commentator Adam Conover released a great video with a smart take on something we’ve all lost: a way of talking about time in ten year chunks. Those born after the year 2000 probably don’t know this, but if you’re a child of the 1970s, you’ll know exactly what he’s talking about. He had a great show in the late 2010s called Adam Ruins Everything, and I still have no idea what to call that particular decade. The tens? Tenties? But, yes the show was a great mix of facts and comedy in the vein of Penn & Teller: Bullshit!. Sadly, we no longer have either of these shows on the air.
Take a look at the video:
Now, this may be happening because we just don’t know what to make of a century’s beginning. None of us were here for the last one, and few of us will be perplexed by the next millennium shift. It’s kind of a unique thing of our time. I makes me wonder if, one hundred years ago, people were seeing a lack of naming for their time.
This of course leads into the hyper focus on generations and ‘blaming’ of things on a particular generation. He has so many good points there. Ok Boomer.
“Our iPhones are a little bigger, who gives a sh**.”
Exactly.
Thanks again reader. Much more to come.
